What is Neurofeedback or Neurotherapy?

You have been “diagnosed” with anxiety, depression, Bi-Polar disorder, ________ fill in the blank.

You take medications that have limited impact, don’t work, or have side effects.

You have been to therapists who have given you many strategies that you just can’t seem to implement.

Do you know why you act the way you act? Why are you anxious? Why you can’t seem to do things with ease, despite your best intentions? Why do past experiences seem to haunt your present?

Neurotherapy works in the pre-conscious world of brain function, where the habits laid down by years or decades of experiences have programmed you to respond with behaviors you would like to be different.

With gentle but persuasive training, your brain can be guided to discover new response pathways unreachable by other means.

Benefits of Neurofeedback Training

What to Expect During a Neurofeedback Training Session

Neurofeedback training is a type of therapy that uses brainwaves to help improve function. It teach the brain, over time, how to regulate itself better and to incorporate that new learning.

During a neurofeedback training session, sensors are placed on the head to measure brain activity. This information is then used to provide feedback to the individual so that their brain can learn to better control its own activity.

Neurofeedback training sessions need to be regualr and consistent, at least twice per week. The number of sessions needed depends on the person’s condition and goals for treatment.

Before I met with John, my life was a wreck. Since our first e-mail exchange, he has shown nothing but compassion for my military service and conditions. I couldn’t focus, sleep, or remain happy or at peace, before I started doing Neurofeedback Training. 11 sessions in, and I want to cry thinking of my progress!

I am happy, energetic, positive, and myself AGAIN. I can’t believe I was missing out on this for years. John saved my life in so many ways. NFB works! I will never take medication again. Thank you for this life-changing experience!!!

Infra Low Frequency

Since its discovery in 2006, neurofeedback in the infra‐low frequency (ILF) region of the EEG spectrum (below 0.1 Hz) has matured into a therapeutic method applicable to the full spectrum of mental disorders. Pioneered by Sue and Siegfried Othmer of EEGInfo, the Cygnet software we use to train these low frequencies is the most widely used and technologically advanced in the industry.

Deep within your brain are networks which communicate at extremely low frequencies. They manage the second by second stability and flexibility of your brain, the platform which determines your reactions to the outside world. If those networks are not functioning well, you will exhibit the symptoms of that disregulation– sleepless nights, anxiety and depression, migraines, impulsivity, compulsivity, and far more.

Rather than impose a predetermined outcome based on comparisons to other brains, it is uniquely individual, informing the client of their own brain’s internal activity and allowing it to take that information to make adjustments in its own best performance. That is exactly how it is evolutionarily designed, it just needs good information. The technology is used to provide exactly that, your job as a client is to allow your brain to witness its changing dynamics and make the corrections needed for better function.

Default Network Training

Default Network Training or DNT was conceived by Dr. David Kaiser, one of the world’s leading experts in qEEG analysis. Based on his unique analysis of brain function using a quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG), this type of neurofeedback trains specific parts of the brain (Brodmann areas) to balance their energy, for your best performance. Any over use or under use of regions of the brain will result in behaviors that impede that best performance and, using this technique, proper function can be found or restored.

All areas of the brain are targeted, from the deepest limbic structures, like the amygdala and the hippocampus, which regulate your most basic, innate responses, to the prefrontal cortex, the final arbiter of your everyday functioning. And everything in between.

Data-Driven Neurofeedback

In addition to our extensive intake questionnaire, we employ sophisticated measurement tools to measure your brain’s current and ongoing performance levels. Both to guide our training and to track your progress along the way.

Quantitative Electroencephalogram

This 19-channel comprehensive brain analysis compares your brain to a database of high-performing individuals revealing your individual brain connectivity patterns. This analysis lets us know exactly what areas of your brain to train, at what frequency, and for how long!

Continuous Performance Test

Our QIK® test gives well validate performance measurements of your brains ability to quickly and accurately perform a Go/No-Go task.

Symptom Rating Scale

This quantitative scaling self report allows us to measure and track your response to the training over time.

Cognitive Assessment

This 45-minute video-based cognitive assessment gives you and us valuable information about your current cognitive performance. It will identify specific areas of challenge, and our training protocols can be modified to address those issues.

Lifestyle Assessment

A comprehensive look at diet and lifestyle issues that we know can impact the success of improving your overall health. The brain can only work as well as what you feed it and how well you take care of it.
